SawStop continues to produce professional grade power tools with their PCS31230-TGP252. This is a higher end saw and will truly produce professional results. Delivering top-notch performance and safety, this saw is ideal for the professional and the hobbyist as well. And to top it off, this model comes with SawStop’s large T-Glide system, 52-inches, as well as rails and extension table; providing added strength, precision, and support.
One of the best features of this saw is the innovative safety brake. In the event a hand or finger comes in contact with the blade, a strong, fast-acting spring pushes an aluminum block, called a brake pawl, into the blade and will stop the spinning blade while at the same time the blade will recess below the table top to prevent further injury. The whole process happens faster than you can blink.
From the time contact is detected to the blade coming to a complete stop is 1/200th of a second. Another great feature is the 3 HP motor that enables this material-eating monster to tear through just about anything you can feed it.
One advantage of the PCS31230-TGP252 is its power. Equipped with a larger motor than its predecessor, the CNS175-TGP36, a 3 horsepower motor enables this machine to handle anything you throw at it. First, its heavy duty cast iron table top along with the extension guarantees a massive, steady surface and accurate cuts on material as large as full 4×8 sheets of plywood with its 20×27-inch table and 12×27-inch extension wing which is included. An advantage with this saw is its ability to maximize dust collection.
An additional dust port which is on the back of the blade shroud adds a boost to the dust collection system to ensure your work area stays clean and help reduce airborne particulates. A zero clearance insert helps reduce chip-out and provides support through the length of the cut.
There are very few disadvantages with the SawStop PCS31230-TGP252. One of them is the price. This professional model starts at the professional price of well over $2,000.00. And depending on where you shop, you could pay over $3,000.00. The only other notable disadvantage is the fact that it does not come with a wheeled stand. This saw weighs 500+ pounds so moving it around the shop will be nearly impossible alone.
Best Suited For
With the ease of use, easy to set-up, and attention to detail given by the manufacturer, this is possibly the best cabinet saw available on the market. Plenty of power and smooth operation means that even someone who is new at using a table saw or the seasoned vet will enjoy operating the PCS31230-TGP252.
However, unless you’re a hardcore hobbyist, the price would make this saw better suited for a professional that would use it on a consistent basis due to the hefty price. This does not take away from the quality of the SAWSTOP PCS31230-TGP252 however. This is a great saw that will help anyone complete a project with a professional finish. If you are just learning then there is no point buying a table saw for a couple thousand, I would suggest starting out with the DeWalt DW745 model which will allow you to learn on a great saw but without the large price tag.
